A Checklist for Moving to California
Plan on making the move to California but want to be as prepared as can be beforehand? Here are some tips and resources to help you secure a property and get started, courtesy of Bryan Lincoln Real Estate.

Finding a Property
While the median properties in California are higher than average, you can probably find one within budget if you do your research properly.

  • Before deciding on a location, check if additional taxes apply there. For example, if you choose to buy in the Mello-Roos Community Facility District, you can expect higher taxes here.
  • Find a mortgage that will work for you financially. This will enable you to qualify for a mortgage and settle the purchase price of a property much more quickly.
  • It may be more affordable to consider renting first before committing to buying, as the price of homes in California has risen dramatically recently.

Moving a Business With You
If you have to bring a business along with you to California, establishing what the process is can help you navigate the move more easily.

  • If you own an LLC and have had to move your business to California, you may need to re-register your business here.
  • Stay on top of your paperwork. Do remember that if you are forming an LLC in the state of California that you will need to complete Form LLC 12 within 90 of registering your business.
  • To protect your business from liability, it is also a good idea to take out business insurance, also known as Commercial General Liability insurance.

Ensuring Your Family Settles in Nicely
Picking the right destination will be vital to you and your families level of contentment in the long run.

  • If you are looking for top-rated family-friendly destinations, consider checking out Fremont, Santa Clara, and Thousand Oaks.
  • If you have a pet, then Runyon Canyon Dog Park and Rosie's Dog Beach are two places where your furry companion will have lots of fun.
  • If you’re looking for pet insurance in California, read top-rated reviews before deciding on one.
  • As for your kids, there is plenty to keep them busy in sunny California. Disneyland Park and San Diego Zoo are two attractions that will keep your kids amused for hours.

Moving to California is sure to be an exciting experience. Making sure you tick off all those important to-dos regarding the health and welfare of your business and family beforehand will help make the moving process more seamless overall.
